Old Soldier (after Rembrandt)
This is a very personal painting for two reasons. I love the works of Rembrandt and this painting, based on the Maste.'s 'Old Man in a Military Costume', is one of recovery as well as the anxiety of memory and flash-backs. It depicts someone who has been through the wars, military or not, and is now wishing for peace. The second reason is that this painting is the one where suddenly my technique, from colour mixing to brushwork, suddenly clicked and I had a sense of 'graduation' from my previous works.
